All I can say is thank the lord my kids made it through this gauntlet. They are admirable as people ("good character ") and are established in good careers. And they went to mid-tier colleges, not Ivy League schools. My advice to parents with kids in high school (or earlier) is to guide them (including modeling!) in being resilient curious problem-solvers (let's step back and find how to make this work).
