As an erstwhile Catholic altar boy (never abused) I've long known about the shroud. Sounds like it's a true mystery and perhaps always will be. The mystery of how it was made is for me on par with how it managed to get handed deliberately from one person to another over 1,300 years, without an Antiques Roadshow to establish provenance.
