I have to admit I'm personally comfortable stopping with your biological analysis -- we look for meaning because we are living creatures struggling to survive and thrive. We are programmed to look for meaning, whether it's there or not.
It's like a hammer that when it's pounded down every nail, can only go looking for more nails, whether there are any or not.
If God exists, it seems evident God programmed us to look for meaning in the world. It seems evident God didn't program us to be infinitely transcendent like God is.
Rather than keep searching for nails, let's use our hammers for whatever fulfills our desire for meaning, like grabbing a chisel and creating a sculpture.
