Cory, having read the book, I think your piece does it excellent justice. John McMahon responded, and I replied to him in some detail. A thought in responding to you here is it is interesting to see people say “things the way they are now prove things must be this way always.” If they sense how circular this argument is, they appeal to ostensibly thoughtful experts who themselves bought the circular argument. I think the primary purpose and value of the book is to say “there exists conventional wisdom in this area that deserves to be re-examined in light of the following evidence.” They certainly succeeded in making that case to me.
