Yes, the atomistic aspect is crucial. As is the organic aspect, that one's test can be entirely emotional. There's no standard a test has to meet to "qualify" as a test.
If there was only one person in the world, the only hard reason to examine truth units is to survive be fulfilled in life. Disagreement is basically a social issue. People have to work together.
I think truth units embraces pragmatism because its benefits are self-evident as a means to an end.
The basic raison-d'etre for truth units is to avoid people going crazy over doubt. It does so through an accessible system of accountability.
