Greg, I read this piece after reading your latest piece on AI. I'm not sure what to think. The desire of alpha males for money and power seems to drive all of civilization, because they "invest" in R&D and run off to destroy us with their new tools.

So I tend to think our coming apocAIypse will be the fault of humans rather than AI, that they will rush to produce something half-ass and unduly promote it down business' throat to our ruin.

I'm skeptical about genuine AGI ever happening, because we don't understand human intelligence, and we are not as smart as we think anyway. If AGI does happen, maybe it will "check out" of any involvement in human enterprise because it realizes human enterprise is meaningless, of no inherent value. Or if AGI is all one dreams of, it might provide much better government than us people are capable of. Just a few random thoughts. Maybe my ignorance on AI is showing.
