Greg, this piece stirs many thoughts. Things have been evolving a little over the past few months with truth units in a way that connects with this passage.
Specifically, that viewpoints are neither correct nor incorrect. Rather, some viewpoints mesh together better than others.
However, a viewpoint is not identical with a person. Each person is multiple viewpoints. So agreement begins when some viewpoints of each person connect. The experience of that connection can lead to new viewpoints that they find also mesh. Or not.
Viewpoints within one person do not necessarily mesh with each other. This creates inner conflict, whether conscious or not. Ideally, people should get their own viewpoints to mesh before trying to mesh with other people.
The woman who made the cis gender remark sounds like her viewpoints do not easily mesh, within and without. (Emphasis on "sounds.")
