I didn't mean to diss Plato (or Aristotle) too heavily. The allegory of the cave is brilliant if misguided. Re Plotinus, my understanding is he was also a big influence on Christian doctrine, which is also important today. As a lapsed Catholic, it's interesting to look at Christian doctrine by teasing apart the New Testament from its Hellenistic influences.
