I don’t want to argue about this. We often say “consciousness is a mystery” without thinking through what “mystery” means. It means we have no satisfying explanation. It is pointless to argue for one explanation over another since they all fail.

However, science grows its knowledge. Over the years it has solved other mysteries. Science has made progress on this mystery in recent decades. It’s not clear other lines of inquiry can say the same. I’m content to say “let’s keep an eye on developments.”
