I think you're an American. I bet lots of other people too. I think the underlying issue is a person's response to *difference*. Some people, when they notice a difference, effectively seize up -- they think the difference is *significant*.
I notice differences all the time, and each time I feel a slight twinge. And then I move on. We're all people.
I'm white and live in a largely white town. When I take the train into the city, most of the people around me are not white. I still notice this, but having taken the train many dozens of times over 10 years, those differences don't make a difference. I react more to their clothes than anything else.
