Some years back, I read "The Trial of Socrates" by I.F. Stone (Little Brown 1988). Are you aware of it by any chance? It remember it as a thorough, scholarly, informative and nuanced look at how Socrates was perceived by his contemporaries, in particular his followers and his accusers.
