Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer, but I wonder why we are even talking about this?

On the one hand, we absolutely should be witnessing and internalizing what you're talking about.

On the other hand, isn't it obvious we've passed the tipping point? That the time has passed for countermeasures? I say this as one whose writing on Medium is almost solely about a proposed countermeasure.

We would like to say we have a government of, for and by the people. But the last election belies that. We have become so lost in our illusions that we chose to abandon that form of government. We have given power to a new form of government. Now government has the power to defeat countermeasures. So we will continue to live in our illusions.

I'm not saying all is lost. I'm just saying this is where all the data is pointing. Is there any data out there that is pointing elsewhere? Is there a deus ex machina we cannot yet see?
