Steven, this article does a great job of getting one to think about the ethical principles that guide them in today’s world, because it invites people to consider Singer’s ideas and explore their implications.
The “Escalator of Reason” concept nicely focuses one on expanding their thinking to consider global versus interpersonal or ‘tribal’ perspectives. Perhaps a step beyond reason to expanding one’s perspective is to increase one’s understanding of other people’s beliefs and values.
