Thank you, James, it was great for me to read this. It's fascinating to see how the TCs go from a past cultural context to a contemporary context.
I was in Catholic grade school for four years and was an altar boy for a few years. In a word, I was devout. But over a life of being inquisitive and skeptical, it became clear God reduces to a vanishing point.
In the Bible, there is the phrase "God is." (I think that is what YHWH means?) The vanishing point is that you can say "God is" but you can't add any words following "is" or you contradict and demolish the idea of God.
I think this vanishing point idea is consistent with your analysis.
I'm not knocking belief in God. I see faith as embracing "God is" and letting go of trying to add words to that sentence.
