Thanks for this article. I feel I can say I have some sense, if not understanding of Mr. K's thought. I have always wanted to understand it, but was deterred by his writing style, as I am by a lot of existential/continental thinkers/writers.
Some comments here are critical of self-actualization because it conflicts with ethics and society. I'd say one can self-actualize and still be ethical to a balanced degree. Following one's own path doesn't necessarily mean hurting other people or society. Some of history's greatest figures are admired because they self-actualized, and in doing so gave more to the world than they would have otherwise.
