The Amazon Tolkien series. They had hobbits, etc, of different "colors" which worked 100% for me. Same with stage productions of old plays in which all the characters were of the same "color" -- no need to retain the homogenity. Again with movies where the story doesn't hinge on colors. I wonder though how a movie like "12 Years a Slave" would work if some slaves were white and some plantation owners were black. Or a classical samurai movie with no westerners in it -- shouldn't they all look at least Asian. Some historical movies, theater and TV might be thrown off kilter if you got confused about the story because of the casting. I'm not disagreeing per se. I realize eggs must be broken to make omelettes. I agree with the goal of making the omelette you envision.

Your piece sparked the thought that race is being erased by itself. Some people I can't tell what their race, perhaps due to mixed parentage. If procreation seriously globalizes, we will be a subtle spectrum of colors, not distinctly different colors. For sure where I live, many young people I see I can't distinguish by color, they are between black and white, etc.
