The frequent attitude among the rich is "I want to get richer." Often they can't get richer without hiring people. They compensate for this by either paying them as little as possible, or by mercilessly flogging them to perform .

When I worked in the corporate world, I had a relatively high salary. But to perform, I had to work extra hours. If you divided my salary by the number of hours I worked, I started to approach minimum wage.

A friend's son was in the NBA. He was constantly flogged, in the sense that if he wanted his salary, he better perform like Superman.

It's like you have a rich boss who doesn't care about you in the slightest, or a boss who is trying to please a rich(er) boss by flogging you.

Rich people are funders of nonprofits. They don't want to give nonprofit employees money they could keep for themselves.

When I was a freelancer working for nonprofits, they flogged me to perform and paid as little as possible, because they were in the same position.

I was fairly ok with it, because they weren't greedy, they wanted to help others. And because if they paid me more, it would come out of their budget for helping people who deserved help.
