The problem I see with believing Jesus is God is because it can be seen as transactional -- follow His teachings and you'll get to Heaven. Because some people have trouble seeing their faults, it's easy to for them to believe they're getting to Heaven even if they are a-holes. It'd be better if people followed the teachings of Jesus without thought of reward. Framed this way, whether or not Jesus is God becomes inconsequential, functionally irrelevant, and makes Christianity less exclusive and more welcome in society.
