There's that saying "it's turtles all the way down." Well, it's marketing all the way down too. We always need to build a bridge to our audience, to meet them where they are. We just need to grasp that marketing can be a scalpel, a subtle thing, not a meat cleaver.
Professionally, I'm a marketer. A client wrote a paper on her work as a special ed teacher. She couldn't get it published. I found her discovery on page 10. I suggested moving it to page 1. She got her paper published, and her career progressed. A small incision made the difference.
Personally, I struggle to find small incisions for my ideas on Medium. As a marketer, I know the right incisions are there someplace. As Anthony Kiedis said, "I'll make it to the moon if I have to crawl."
Anyway, when we make marketing a true friend, we don't need to sell out. :)
