This piece is wonderful for its meta-conceptual depth. You nailed it in the excerpt quoted above. We are indeed wet savanna animals, and people are arrogant to think our conceptual grasp is infinite -- we are lucky to have the cognitive ability we have.

I might be wandering away from your thought, but my takeaway from your discussion of "Thingness" is Nature structured our savanna minds to interpret reality as Things, that are not necessarily any Things in reality. At least that's how I see it:
