This piece of yours has so many good points, I'm very happy I read it. It seems like Heidegger you portray Being as a mystery, like Heraclitus or Deleuze you see nothing can be pinned down, all is constant flux. I agree the Self cannot readily be dispensed with. My take is Antonio Dimasio argues Self precedes Mind, is the basis or foundation of Consciousness. Reading your piece, I wonder if we take away Self, then Mind and Consciousness would disappear. The story of Phaedrus in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance more or less mirrors this idea. On a different tack, I experience Me more than I really *am* Me, and I doubt I own or control Me, even though I have experiences in which I seem to. Again, thank you for your thoughts!
