What a great read to start my day! Much of great philosophy before the 20th century is practically unreadable today. The job of academics is to "translate" the old great texts into content that is as thrilling as it was when it was written.

Philosophy clicked for me when I read Wittgenstein. He didn't waste time on the past. He is a model for philosophers, certainly for me. He directly tackled the prime philosophical (existential) question "What is going on?" Since that question will never be answered in full, the prime mission of the philosopher is to come up with a new answer that deepens our relationship with what's going on, maybe from answering the second question "What should we do about it?"
