What great insights, Clive! I read the McCullough book and really enjoyed it. About 25 years ago, visited Kitty Hawk, which I highly recommend. Standing by the small monument where they launched their flights on a heavily overcast dark day, my eyes wandered over the bleak empty plain, shivered and felt the wind try to blow me over. How could anyone get out of bed and march out there? I would have felt so small doing that and thinking "we're going to see if we can achieve what no human ever has, see if our contraption can overcome the elements." I felt in that place how resolute they had to be. It was both humbling and inspiring.
