While I appreciate your point about the guy being deluded, or at least what he said being delusional, I take a less literal meaning from it.
We are all going to die. That's a certainty. We could die at any moment. We can calculate the probability of that happening, but probability is a human construct. There is no probability in the cosmos. Things either happen or they don't. Or to align this thought with a popular saying, "<x> was true until it wasn't" or "things were <x> until they weren't."
I think the bear guy, if he ever thought it through, would have known to "never say never." The only 100% safe choice is not to live.
