While I largely agree with you, I think you damage this article with how you conflate engagement algorithms with other algorithms.
The problem you describe is corporations maximizing your clicks, screen time, etc. Algorithms are simply a means to their evil ends.
Algorithms can be used for good ends. So if algorithms are banned, those good ends will be lost.
In fact, I'll bet the things you want social media to be for people REQUIRE algorithms in order to make them happen.
You might realize this, but some readers might not, They could leave your article less informed than before, because you sensationalized it to maximize their readership. No judgment, just food for thought :)
