While I support the quality of thought you put into this piece, it seems to have a questionable foundation, which is the assumed validity of “innate” thoughts that are believed with deep conviction, like infants knowing when they are wronged. This suggests infants access a Platonic ideal of Justice. I’m more swayed to think evolution has programmed us to respond to injury with negative emotions, and that our culture builds morality on top of that in order to rationalize those emotions. Once you’ve completely internalized that rationalization I can certainly imagine it feels like you’ve accessed a Platonic ideal, but how do you account for that access? If your account invokes God, isn’t that a bit circular? (“there must be a God to explain my access to ideals”) Granted, one invokes God for other beliefs to build a spiritual foundation, so maybe they add up, including perhaps the belief that life is better by believing in God?
