"WtR" just hit me the other day as something that has been driving me lifelong. My experience is unreasoned action often has regretted consequences.
I agree that reason and emotion aren't distinct from one another. My experience is they can be viewed more distinctly, along the lines discussed in the piece -- specifically they are each "right" in their own appropriate domains, so it should be a partnership rather than one sovereign over the other.
Agreed, I suspect Socrates pushed it a little far -- by not accounting for how his approach impacted other people emotionally. And agreed, reasoning it not an end in itself -- it is worth only as much as the benefit it produces.
