Your analysis of the utility of “woke” to those on the Right—the fear and attack, the denial and bigotry, and the use of the word to fuel the forces of oppression--slices straight to the heart of the matter. One aspect I think I read in your article is if the Right can discredit wokeness, they can discredit calling out oppression. I sometimes hear people who are against the Right saying that activists using words like “woke” and “defund the police” play into the hands of the Right, because people in the middle think that kind of language goes overboard. Personally, I believe if you want to swing the pendulum back to the neutral point of true equality, then you have to err on the side of pushing it past the neutral point to get it to finally equalize. Still, I don’t want to see weapons handed to the Right unnecessarily. I think the Right furthers its ends by defining wokeness as the position or perspective of that of the most radical activists, then tars everyone against oppression with that brush. If so, do you think it would useful to call out this strategy?
